What is gua sha?
Gua sha is a massage technique that began in traditional Chinese practice. Your therapist glides a smooth, flat-edged tool over oiled skin with long, gentle strokes. At Aura we pair it with lymphatic drainage massage: light, rhythmic movements that follow the direction of the body's lymphatic pathways.
Our therapists use a wooden gua sha tool. Wood stays comfortably warm against the skin and glides smoothly, so the treatment feels soothing rather than sharp.
Why clients love it
- Less puffiness. The light, sweeping strokes encourage fluid to move along, so many clients leave looking and feeling less puffy, especially around the face, jaw and legs.
- Released tension. Slow, steady pressure works into tight areas like the jaw, neck, shoulders and calves.

What to expect
Your therapist will ask about your health and any areas you'd like them to focus on. You'll then relax on the treatment bed while they work through each area with the wooden tool and their hands, using a nourishing oil.

- Lymphatic drainage with gua sha (1 hour 30): R1,100, R880 in October
Afterwards, drink plenty of water and take it easy for the rest of the day.
Is it right for me?
Gua sha lymphatic drainage suits most people. Please let us know when you book if you are pregnant, have heart or kidney problems, blood clots or a history of DVT, an active infection or fever, broken or irritated skin in the area, or if you are being treated for cancer. Your therapist may suggest checking with your doctor first.
